The Federation of Australian Wool Organisations is pleased to invite you to take part in the 74th Congress of the International Wool Textile Organisation in Hobart from 18 to 23 April 2005.
With a Congress theme of Rejuvenation through Innovation, we have developed a novel programme to highlight the innovative progress being achieved in the sheep, wool and textile industries, from the production of the highest quality fibre through to the manufacture and retailing of superior products made from wool. To this end, there will be further change in emphasis towards informative and educational forums, with less emphasis on the traditional technical and commercial meetings. Also, being in a wool producing country, we have initiated an abbreviated programme specifically designed to interest and involve those wool growers who are unable to commit to spending the whole week with us. A highlight of this will be the AWI Grower Day, which is open to all Delegates, of course.
The choice of Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania, as the Congress location is most appropriate. Tasmania has been the home of many of the foundation studs from which the Australian Merino evolved and it has long been recognised as the source of some of the highest quality wool produced throughout Australia and the world. In fact, you will have the opportunity to inspect and buy such wools, when they are showcased at the “IWTO Ultimate Auction” of selected superfine wools (see below).
Separated from mainland Australia by the 240 km stretch of Bass Strait, and easily accessible by air or sea, Tasmania is also a State of wild and beautiful landscapes; friendly, welcoming people; a pleasant, temperate climate; wonderful food and wine; a rich history and a relaxed island lifestyle.
We look forward with great enthusiasm to welcoming you to Hobart in 2005.
