Pakistani exporters were unable to fully benefit from the US offer of increased quota of $ 143 million under Textile Apparel Market Access package extended to Pakistan after 9/11.
This crucial information was given to the National Assembly in a reply to a written question put by MNA Mohammad Pervaiz Malick.
The MNA wanted to know from the Commerce Ministry about the advantages the business community had taken from the US after offering unconditional support after 9/11 incident.
Consequently, the Commerce Ministry told the House that the US had offered market access to Pakistani businessmen under Textile Apparel Market Access package (2002).
The US offered increased quota worth $ 143 million vis-a-vis 12 items by increasing restrain level.
The net increment in export during Jan-Dec 2002 because of the enhanced package was around $ 21-23 million.
Pakistan continues to seek reconfiguration of textile benefits from the US to achieve the limit of full extent of $ 143 million in 2003 and 2004.
