Ministry Of Commerce Fears Clampdown On Shoe Exports |
2004-7-13
China’s Ministry of Commerce (MoC) is bracing itself for a European Union investigation into exports of footwear. The action expected to be taken by the EU is a reaction to rapidly increasing amounts of Chinese shoe exports, as well as the lifting of export quotas due on 1 January 2005.Italy, Portugal, France and Spain have all so far shown discontent towards China’s increasing monopolisation of the market, and the EU is currently acting on this by preparing data for the case. The MoC said that the move, believed to particularly apply to leather shoes, would “seriously” affect the country’s export trade, and recommended that businesses take precautions against possible legislation.
