A new technology that allows scents to be woven into clothes has been developed by Quest International, a member of the ICI Group, and marketing body Woolmark.
The technology, called Sensory Perception Technologies (SPT), will allow firms to weave particles of moisturisers, deodorants, fragrances, vitamins and even anti-tobacco agents into fabrics. SPT even withstands repeated machine washing.Shibani Mohindra, new business development director at Quest International, says: “Until now, textiles have only utilised the senses of vision and touch but a new way of looking at the impact of senses on our lives – Sensism – will revolutionise the textile industry.
”The first practical application is SPT which creates ‘3D fabrics’ – for clothes that look good, feel good and do good – that will become the norm in the future.”
David Hellens, The Woolmark Company spokesman, said: “SPT brings huge new benefits to the consumer, offering people new ways to use fabrics, while having the potential to add considerable value to the textile industry.”
