China; Xiansheng holds out hope for China |

Xiansheng, lying south of Shanghai is all set to ‘barge through the floodgates’ of the United States Of America, which will open January 2005 as the quotas vanish.
Despite bad roads, and negative effects of the recent drought, the area strains utmost to keep pace with the economic ambitions that has reached a crescendo.
All the talk is of further expansion in readiness for the end of
quotas restricting exports to the prized markets of the US and Europe, at Xiansheng.
"We have to double our capacity," says Yang Hangxiang, export manager of Ningbo Hongli, knitted garments and sportswear manufacturer, echoing the plans of many producers in the area.
With a population of about 25,000 residents and 432 registered textile and clothing factories and workshops, many of them in family homes, Xiansheng is typical of textile centres in China gearing up for the post-quota world.
Dismissing early skepticism, today all are busy investing in the belief the quotas will be lifted from the start of next year and the prosperity will ring in.
US importers, who have long chafed under the restrictions of quotas, are also convinced.
China seems to have begun in the right earnest and offering apparel and garment products in a variety of range and quality will hardly face any competition from other countries.
And it is at places in China like Xiansheng that offers it, the hope and confidence of wading through the competition from other countries and coming up a cropper that it look forward to.
Till then, Xiansheng will be a speck in China like many others dotting around the countryside, which have fuelled unparallel growth and hope that future hold in store for the country as a whole. |
