China : Shanghai port posts steady textile exports |

Shanghai Port has registered a steady growth of textiles and garments exports in the first half of this year. 60 percent of the total exports were to Japan, Europe and the United States.
Experts warned Chinese textile and garments exporters to take measures to meet challenges in a post-quota era, including such non-tariff trade barriers as anti-dumping lawsuits and rigid environmental protection requirements.
According to the Shanghai Customs Bureau, the port exported US $17.6 billion worth of textiles and garments in the first half of this year, accounting for some 25 percent of its total export volume for the period and representing a year-on-year increase of $ 3.5 billion or 25 percent.
During the six months, the port shipped $10.1 billion worth textiles and garments to Japan, the European Union and the United States, up 17 percent from the same period last year.
The total exports included $4.3 billion worth to Japan, up 16 percent, $3 billion to the EU, up 12 percent, and $2.8 billion to the United States, up 25 percent, informed the customs office. |
