Pakistan : PAC asks minestry to investigate power theft by a textile mill

The PAC, headed by Member of the National Assembly Malik Allah Yar Khan said that the committee was concerned at the ministry’s ‘indifferent and non-cooperative attitude’ and its attached departments as far as the Audit Department objections were concerned. Apart from other issues, the PAC chairman asked the ministry to investigate the loss of Rs 31.078 million in power theft by a Multan textile mill. It said the Water and Power Development Authority officials who failed to detect the theft should be also be questioned. The textile mill recently went to court when its electricity was suspended for non-payment of Rs 31.078 million power charges. Its power was however restored on court orders when it paid Rs 5 million against the outstanding.
