India : State of Gujarat seeking more tie-ups |

The prosperous West Indian state of Gujarat is keen to increase business co-operation with Malaysia by having more joint ventures, especially in the edible oils and tourism sectors.
As per Arvind Agrawal, Industries Commissioner for Gujarat, although there were only 27 Indian joint-ventures in Malaysia, the scope to expand bilateral interaction was always there.
One of the most progressive states in India, Gujarat has a well-diversified industrial base. It includes housing the world''s largest grass root petroleum refinery and being an established leader in textiles, engineering, chemicals, petrochemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals and jewellery.
Speaking at the lauch of Singapore Airlines direct fight between Ahmedabad and Singapore, the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who met the journalists at his office, his government was promoting Gujarat overseas by contacting successful Gujarati businessmen who had made their base in other countries.
“Through them (the businessmen), we intend to get in touch with those who are interested in forming business links with Gujarat, especially in manufacturing, tourism and port development,” he said.
Modi envisaged that by 2020, Gujarat would become a model not only for other Indian states, but also for other developing countries. |
