Australia : Wool exports to China up as South Korea, Germany and France return as top ten destinations |

The Australian Bureau of Statistics figures reveal that Australian wool exports increased in volume and value terms in May compared to previous year in the same month.
China picked up most of the exported wool followed by Taiwan which also saw large year-on-year in May, while other major destinations recorded smaller, but nonetheless significant, gains.
The exceptions to this trend of the top ten export destinations were South Korea, Germany and France. Some of the declines could be overstated, as actual export destinations of wool top from Australia were largely not declared in May. South Korea, in particular, is likely to have been a significant destination of wool top in May.
However, almost all of Australia''s exports of wool top in May were reported to have been to ''Country Not Specified.''
Australian export volumes for 11 months prior to May 2004 were down moderately on the same period last year, although this is a marked recovery after a more significant fall during the September quarter of 2003/04 and again at the end of the December quarter of the season compared to a year earlier.
However, increase of exports to China during the second half of the season saw Australian wool exports to China for the July-May period down year on year. |
