Textiles Ministry is planning to release additional quota in order to restrict higher garment quota premium, the Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.
The Textiles Minister in a written reply to a question in Parliament, stated that the Government has been opening additional quantities on the first-come-first-serve basis from time to time, after careful consideration of the availability, utilisation and demand in the relevant country categories.
"The purpose is to optimise quota utilisation and to ensure that the quotas are available to the actual exporters on a continuous basis to the extent possible." he said.
Replying to another question, he said Government had fixed the export target for readymade garment at $60 billion for 2004-05. |
