Australia:ALP denies hand in delaying textiles investment package |

The package is worth $600million – recipient textile, clothing and footwear industry and considered ‘opponent’ - The Federal Opposition.
But, the Federal Opposition has denied so.
Tasmanian Labor Senator Kerry O''Brien says the Austraalian Labour Party (ALP) supports the strategic investment plan.
Companies like Devonport''s Australian Weaving Mills are entirely dependent on the passage of the package.
But Senator O''Brien says Labor does have a problem with the Tariff Reduction Bill, which will lead to the phasing out of textile tariffs.
"We don''t think it''s necessarily in the interests of Australian Industry at this stage to accelerate the process of tariff reduction," Senator O''Brien said.
"The free trade agreement will pose some significant problems for the textile industry and tariff reduction from other markets in isolation may not be the solution.
"We will be, I think, a critic of the Government in relation to that legislation." |
