Turkey:EU enthused on trade prospects |

AS regulations governing inter-island trade start taking effect, the EU representative on the island said yesterday he hoped trade would start between Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
Speaking after a meeting with a Turkish Cypriot women’s group, Van der Meer said that by the end of the day on Monday, around 25 applications had been received from Turkish Cypriot producers for certificates of origin.
The Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce has been given the sole right to issue the certificates under the Green Line regulations governing trade between Greek and Turkish Cypriots, which came into effect on Monday.
Ali Erel, the chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber said that among other sectors, there are several applicants from the textile sector. |
