Following numerous triumphs in South America, noted menswear designer Carlos Benguigui will make his U.S. debut with his latest collection in New York City on September 7, 2004 as part of the USA International Fashion Shows. The show is by invitation to press, VIPs and fashion buyers only.
A native of Spain, currently living and working in Venezuela, Benguigui is known for his elegant menswear designs, which combine the classic with the avant-garde in a uniquely modern style. The majority of Carlos Benguigui’s latest collection is formal wear combining a variety of textures, including “Super 110 S” fabrics and overlapping satin and opaque stripes, all rendered with superb tailoring. These elegant suits travel seamlessly from an important business meeting to a cocktail party to a wedding.
Various two and three-piece suits feature longer cut jackets, bias lapels and contrasting silk brocade vests. The distinctive Benguigui smoking jackets are classically cut, while an Asian influence can be seen in the richly patterned Mao silk suits embellished with Chinese buttons.
Geometrically patterned silk shirts with Mao collars call to mind the 1980’s. More sporty looks include looser shirt jackets and pure linen drawstring slacks. Finally, a group bohemian suits in polished silk gauze feature wide cut trouser legs and weighted hems -- the perfect wardrobe choice for the well-dressed performer or performer-at- heart.
“There are very few formal men’s collections shown in New York, yet every man needs an impeccably tailored suit at one time or another,” notes fashion show producer Andres Aquino.
“We are thrilled to present Benguigui’s collection and bring a touch of elegance to the men’s fashion world while providing this gifted designer with the opportunity to explore new markets.”
The show will be held at Gallery, The Gershwin Hotel, 7 East 27th Street, (between Madison and 5th Avenue) on New York’s chic East Side.
