The International Formalwear Association has awarded its prestigious Black Tie Award for 2004 to Gary Davis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Trenton-based Jim''s Formal Wear Co.
The award was presented at the industry''s annual convention in Las Vegas on August 19, 2004. Davis was honored with this award for his lifetime contributions that promoted the betterment of the formalwear industry.
Gary began working for his family''s business when he was in high school. He started his career as a shoe shiner. As his formalwear career progressed, he worked in all areas of the operation while attending college.
In 1984, he purchased the company from his father and brother. Over his 22-year tenure as President and CEO of Jim''s Formal Wear Co., Davis has grown the company to five times the size it was when he purchased it in 1984.
Jim''s Formal Wear now services over 4,000 wholesale accounts in all 50 states via eight regional service centers. The company also owns 11 retail tuxedo stores and a garment and textile restoration business.
This growth was accomplished by maintaining the dedication to the customer that was taught to him by his father, Jim Davis. Gary has never forgotten the importance of the event for which the company''s product is being used. On numerous occasions, he has, himself, driven hundreds of miles to take care of a customer in need.
Gary''s interest and love for the formal wear industry is evidenced through his 22 years of involvement in the International Formalwear Association. To this end, Gary served on the Board of Directors for the Association from 1982-2002 and he served as President of the IFA during 1988-1989. |
