The country formally announced its support of the WTO study into the effects of quota removal in 2005.
Proposed by seven developing nations including Mauritius, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the study asks the WTO to ponder over the situation arising out of exiting quota system on textile trade.
"Some countries whose key industry is garments like Mauritius are anxious that they would not be competitive once the quota system is removed," said Rini MS Soewandi, Minister of Industry and Trade.
As per the calculations of Indonesian Textile Association (API) of the post quotas scenario, Indonesia’s US market share will drop 2% from the current 4%. Sametime, API also suggested that China’s share would triple from 16% to 53%. |
