Sikander Hayat Bosan, the federal minister of food, agriculture and livestock, announced in Islamabad on Monday that the government estimates record cotton production of 11.6 million bales this season compared to 10.7 million bales last year.
“We are optimistic to achieve 11.6 million bales of cotton this year, which will be a record production in the last ten years,” the minister told reporters at a news briefing following the meeting of the Federal Committee on Agriculture.
In response to a query, he said while government would not discourage cotton export, he added that as was the case last year, this year too, government would import certain quantity of cotton for the textile industry.
He said the government would ensure that farmers should get Rs 925 per 40-kg. The TCP has been instructed to ensure this, he stated. |
