The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements (CITA) has decided to consider a request by a coalition of textiles associations for safeguard action that would limit imports of combed cotton yarn (category 301) from China.
The committee will now mull whether imports of combed cotton yarn from China threaten the US with market disruption.
If the committee finds that imports of Chinese combed cotton yarn threaten to disrupt the US market, then it will request consultations with China with a view to easing or avoiding such market disruption. As of the date such consultations are requested by the United States, a quota will be put in place to limit US imports of combed cotton yarn.
The American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition, National Council of Textile Organizations and National Textile Association filed the request for safeguard action on Oct. 27.
