Malaysia: Retailers to benefit from better consumer sentiment |

Festive shopping this season has raised the expectations among retailers who see a rise in holiday spending this year.
As per the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (Mier) report, an economic turnaround backed by heavy tourist arrivals, the stock market echo the sentiments and bonus payments for civil servants are the important factors that proffer such positive sentiments in the last quarter of the year.
Even the Mier’s Retail Trade Index (RTI) and Consumer Sentiment Index (CSI) showed have raised their bars signaling affirmative gains for the fourth quarter.
The Mier CSI stands at 113.9, logging a 3.2-point upswing quarter-on-quarter, showing increased elevated consumer optimism.
Last year, the level stood at 112.8 points during the same period.
Tourist arrivals, another major pointer in the overall economic turnaround displayed healthy arrival numbers crossing monthly target of 1 million for the past nine months. |
