An Italian Garments Festival will be staged this year in north China's Tianjin City, a traditional textile industrial center of the country.
According to an agreement signed by the Tianjin Textile & Garments Association and the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, the festival is expected to fortify friendly relations between Chinese and Italian garment industries and to promote trade between the two countries' clothing enterprises, said Jiang Hengjie, vice president of the China Garments Association.
Under the agreement, the festival will feature a fashion show of classics by prestigious Italian designers, a Sino-Italian garment forum and a fashion design contest to be appraised by Italian specialists.
Trade talks will also be held between Chinese and Italian business people at the event, the accord says.
Besides, training in high-end suit-making will be provided for Chinese tailors from local suit enterprises. Those finishing the training lessons and passing related exams will obtain certificates issued by the National Academy of Master Tailors of Italy.
The textile and garments sector has grown rapidly in China, a senior official with the Italian Chamber of Commerce said, but it is still far behind world standards.
