Some 66 textile manufacturers from the Chinese mainland began exhibiting their textile products to potential buyers on March 5 at the Hong Kong Exhibition Center.
The 2003 China Fabric Exhibition in Hong Kong, the fifth of its kind since 1999, is joined by more than 100 entrepreneurs in the textile industry from the Chinese mainland.
According to Cao Xinyu, vice chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles and the organizer of the exhibition, Hong Kong is an important textile importer of textile products from the Chinese mainland, which has absorbed 21 percent of the latter's total textile exports in 2002.
Cao added that Hong Kong's imports of textile products from the mainland was valued at 12.9 billion US dollars in 2002, a rise of 20 percent from 2001.
Tsang Jim Way, vice chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Textiles Ltd., noted that Hong Kong textile industry has long forged cooperation with their counterparts from the mainland.
Tsang expressed belief that with the opening of the three-day exhibition, such kind of cooperation will be pushed to a new height. (Xinhuanet)
