In Jan. 2003, China imported 215,600 tons of raw materials for textile use valued at US$304 million, up by 108.12 percent in quantity and up by 146.99 percent in volume upon a year-on-year basis.
Among the total, the import of natural raw materials was 133,100 tons valued at US$213 million, up by 409.06 percent and up by 312.23 percent respectively, while the import of chemical fiber raw materials was 82,500 tons valued at US$90 million, up by 6.72 percent and up by 26.70 percent respectively.
