Bulgaria:"Asianization" threat on Bulgarian

The removal of textile importing quotas from China and India poses a threat on Bulgarian textile undustry.
According to Bulgarian Textile and Clothing Export Association, the lack of quotas for those two countries risks market flooding with cheaper Asian goods.
Bulgarian textile industry employes about a fifth of total workforce in the country, providing for a fourth of overall textile export from Bulgaria.
According to recent data, about 80 percent of Bulgarian textile and textile goods have found friendly markets in Greece, Germany, Italy, France and Spain.
Textile producers fear that Asian quotas removal would lead to a cut of 10 to 30 percent in the national export.
Last week Brussels held a conference dedicated to the problems of textile industry, attended by sector''s representatives from 21 countries.
The delegates discussed the possible aftermath of "Asiatic monopolization" of European textile market following the WTO decision to remove import quotas from China and India as from January 1, 2005 |
