Uganda:President Museveni acknowledges IFAD contribution to boost country’s cotton output |

International Fund for Agricultural Development IFAD, a UN agency, combats hunger, poverty and famine in developing countries received ecolades for its efforts in the field of developing agriculture and cotton output in particular from the Ungandan President Yoweri Museveni.
Yesterday, Museveni addressed the 28th session of the governing council of IFAD at Palazzo Dei Congress in Rome, Italy.
He told the governing council of the IFAD to support agro processing and marketing of agricultural products to boost income and eradicate hunger, famine and poverty in poor countries.
He also called for research and innovation in the agricultural sector.
Appreciating the efforts of IFAD, President Museveni thanked IFAD and the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) for boosting rural agricultural output in Uganda, specifically naming the cotton sector.
At the session, Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt pledged more funding to IFAD and challenged developed countries to work towards the millennium development goal of getting rid of hunger and poverty in the developing world. |
