India:SIMA to promote innovative techniques
through contract farming |

In association with the South India Cotton Association (SICA) and the SIMA-Cotton Development and Research Association (CDRA), a new non governmental body (NGO) will be formed by The Southern India Mills'' Association (SIMA) to promote cotton contract farming in the Karnataka State.
As per SIMA Chairman, Vijay Venkataswamy, the proposed NGO will be a nodal agency between the farmers and the mills involved in the project.
Basically meant for boosting cotton output though adoption of innovative farming techniques, under the plan about 1,500 acres would be initially identified in Nagapattinam, Thiruvannamalai and Namakkal areas, involving 20 to 25 farmers.
So far, seven to eight textile companies have taken to contract farming on their own in the State, and this project is meant to rope in more farmers and mills follow suit. |
