South Africa:SACTWU denies claims of clothing retailers |

The South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU) have contested the leading retailers claims that they are stocking 70% in excess. Ebrahim Patel, the SACTWU Chief, explained that an independent auditor should analyze the figures and claims made by retailers.
The South African clothing industry word war has turns to an another matter when the clothing and textile workers countered the claims made by some of the leading retailers that they are protecting job losses in the industry.
The Foschini management earlier stated that they are presently stocking 70% of local manufactures goods. The Financial Director, Foschini, Ronnie Stein informed that the dilemma in the clothing industry could be a result of external factors which they would like to acknowledge all relevant stake holders. The company only imports the good that are not manufactured in South Africa.
Meanwhile, Andries Bezuidenhout, Industrial Psychologist opined that the demolition of MFA in January, which placed restrictions on exports from China, has pressurized countries like South Africa, which has labour rights. |
