Pakistan:PHMA members urge government
to support in textile sector |

Industry veterans anticipate that the textile sector to grow by 25 to 30 percent through the next financial year due to zero-rated policy declared by the government in the federal budget.
The central, zonal and former chairmen of Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA), Sultan Ahmed, Aslam Karsaz and Zubair Motiwala explained that the government would have to do a lot more to accelerate exports in the textile sector.
They appealed to continue government schemes such as ‘Musharaka’ and ‘Modaraba’ to extend financial support to the textile sector to establish captive power generating plants.
Motiwala informed that they are expecting for $1.8 billion in knitwear sector, the most prominent export sector in the next financial, but none of the export sector has growth capacity due to the lack of electricity and gas.
He urged the government to command the SSGC to extend gas connections in this regard, as ECC had already allowed installation of self- generating power plants in the industry.
Aslam Karsaz had declared in the federal budget to CBR should fix a deadline for the stuck up cases of sales tax refund claims, though 90 percent have claims remained unclear, he added.
He also urged to allocate funds for the export sector for sewage treatment plants to be established on community basis for social compliance.
Zubair said that being a cotton country, the exporters do not have any facility in cotton yarn to compete with others in the region. |
