In terms of the mode of trading, China’s major forms of import and export of textiles and garments continue to be general trade, processing trade with materials supplied by foreign clients, and processing trade with imported materials. In Jan.-Feb. 2003 the export and import through general trade increased in large margin. Processing trade with materials supplied by foreign clients and processing trade with imported materials increased.
In Jan.-Feb.2003, the export of textiles and garments through general trade amounted toUS$6.218 billion, up by 29.30 percent from a year ago. The export of textiles and garments made of imported materials amounted to US$1.883 billion, up by 19.83 percent. And the export of textiles and garments made of materials supplied by foreign clients decreased by 2.28 percent to US$1.354 bmillion.
For textiles, the export through general trade was US$2.313 billion, up by 36.70 percent from a year ago. The export of textiles made of imported materials was US$795 million, up by 22.71 percent, while that of textiles made of materials supplied by foreign clients was US$143 million, up by 10.27 percent.
And for garments, the export through general trade was US$3.905 billion, up by 25.28 percent from a year ago. The export of garments made of imported materials was US$1.088 billion, up by 17.81 percent, while that of garments made of materials supplied by foreign clients was US$1.211 billion, up by 1.41 percent.
China’s import of textiles and garments through general trade increased sharply by 91.40 percent from a year ago to US$172 million in Jan.-Feb. 2003. The import of those made of imported materials was US$944 million, up by 22.23 percent, while that of those made of materials supplied by foreign clients is up by 7.75 percent to US$882 million.
For textiles, the import through general trade amounted to US$150 million, up by 101.58 percent. The import of textiles made of imported materials was US$878 million, up by 22.87 percent, while that of textiles made of materials supplied by foreign clients was US$814 million, up by 9.65 percent.
As for garments, the import through general trade was US$22 million in, up dramatically by 42.22 percent. The import of garments made of imported materials was US$66 million, up by 14.23 percent, while that of garments made by materials supplied by foreign clients was US$68 million, down by 10.73 percent.
