Japan:Man-made fibre sector sustains weaker performance in June

Japan’s man-made fiber (MMF) sector is in search of regaining its competitiveness. Figures clearly indicate that production in June registered decline across most product areas.

While polyester staple output continued its 11 month downfall trend by 6.8 percent to 17,346 tons, the January to June 2005, polyester staple production dropped 5.3 percent to 106,107 tons.

Polyester filament output sank 6.6 percent in June to 23,504 tons registering a cumulative production downfall by 4.4 percent to 143,418 tons.

Acrylic staple fiber output declined 1.7 percent to 21,744 tons. For six months - January to June, its output slipped 1.6 percent to 129,839 tons.

Nylon filament output reached 9,827 tons, down 7.0 percent in June. January through June 2005 cumulative Nylon output plummeted 15.8 percent to 59,844 tons.

On the plus side, cellulose filament output registered an impressive 12.5 percent increase to 2,694 tons and cumulative January through June output witnessed year-on-year growth of 7.5 percent.

Cellulose staple fibre followed the cellulose filament trail recording 10.5 percent rise at 10,870 tons. The six months - January - June output was however, flat at 65,127 tons.
