Lacking stategies, textile industry of the country suffers as several unwanted textile units have come up across the country, informs Jamshid Bassiri, secretary of Textile Industry Association.
Non avaiability of vital demand and supply information of fabrics as well as the quantity of cotton required for production of textiles harming the textile industry of the country.
Besides, undercapacity utilization or over emphasis on a particular sector like carpet making industry of Kashan, which has over 650 units has also compounded the problems.
Bassiri complained that banks did not extend finances for setting up new textile units even as he pointed out that the production costs in the textile sector were 30 percent higher than the rest of the world.
Lack of internal competition and bureaucratic red tapism led Iranian textiles being very high priced.
He also stated that the textile industry had to fight low priced Chinese textile and garment imports which were flooding the loacl markets.
