Indonesia:Govt to keep watch on Chinese textile distributions

Trade Minister, Mari Elka Pangestu stated that the Government will keep continuous watch on the planned relocation of Chinese industries, which were supposed to take advantage of Indonesia to prevent trade wars with the US and the EU.

Mari also added that, its ok if China wants to invest in Indonesia, however we will be monitoring the distribution of Chinese goods through the customs office, see to it that China will only be taking advantage of Indonesia.

However, there were no worries, as the government had taken preventive steps to control the distribution of Chinese goods and avoid accusations from US and EU that Indonesia is controlling the market in the two different regions, said Mari.

Textile and textile commodity had accounted $7 billion in year 2004 to the Indonesian foreign exchange revenue.

The Indonesian Textile Association (API) is aiming to achieve target of $8.2 billion for Indonesian textile exports.
