France:Trade Ministry conveys blocked Chinese textiles import figures

EU embargo has led to flooding of various ports all across member countries leading to a very peculiar situation for both retailers and consumers.

Yesterday, the French Trade Ministry revealed igures indicating the state of Chinese textile goods held at various ports throughout Europe.

It said 5.9 million sweaters, 1.2 million trousers, 121,150 blouses, 52,600 T-shirts and almost 10,600 bras are lying at various French ports.

Besdies, 40 containers holding mechandise valued at 5 to 6 million Euros (US$7 million) await customs entry.

Situation is Germany worse as 1.6 million bras, 201,200 blouses, 3.2 million pairs of trousers, 9.8 million sweaters and 920,000 T-shirts have been held up.

With 9 million sweaters, 3.8 million pairs of trousers, 14,600 blouses, 136,400 T-shirts and 1,470 tons of flax yarn, Italian ports are facing a never before situation.

In Spain, 5.4 million sweaters, 1.3 million trousers, 16,800 blouses, 107,300 T-shirts and 901,500 bras have jammed the ports.

Customs have been piled with 5.2 million sweaters, 1.8 million pairs of trousers, 45,700 blouses, 88,600 T-shirts and 404,000 bras that await clearance due to the EU restrictions.

Summing up, Chinese imports comprising about 48.3 million sweaters, 17.1 million pairs of trousers and almost 500,000 blouses have been languishing at European ports.

Further, the Ministry adds that 1.6 million T-shirts, 3.4 million bras and1,470 tons of flax yarn haveen embargoed , as the quotas imposed by the European Union on Chinese textile exports have exhausted.

Earlier, textile companies from France, Germany, Spain and Italy had complained to the European Union about getting disrupted due to cheap Chinese textile products flooding their local markets.

European retailers are alarmed at the situation and have already hinting at price increases or turning to other countries for averting scarcity situation at home.
