Council To Offer Consultancy For Hi-Tech Powerloom Parks

The special package for the powerloom sector announced in the recent Union Budget is expected to give a fillip to the concept of hi-tech powerloom parks proposed by the Union Textile Ministry to usher in modernisation of the decentralised weaving sector.

The Textile Ministry along with the Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) is fine-tuning the three key components in the special package for the industry — powerloom workshed scheme, textile centre infrastructure development (TCID) scheme and 20 per cent capital subsidy scheme.

The amalgam of these schemes will be the driving-force for hi-tech powerloom parks take-off.The PDEXCIL has now come forward to offer consultancy on promotion of the hi-tech powerloom parks for various associations evincing interest in developing such parks in their weaving clusters, according to the PDEXCIL Chairman, Mr M. Senthil Kumar.

The Council, Mr Kumar said, has formed a consultancy cell, which would be able to guide the powerloom bodies promoting the weaving parks on issues relating to technology, marketing, designing the civil/infrastructure/common facilities in the proposed parks.

Talking to Business Line, the PDEXCIL Chairman said the broad contours of the hi-tech powerloom parks would envisage creating modern loomage of a minimum 1,000 shuttleless looms in the park zone.
