The textile industry in Brazil intends to set more restrictions on the import of certain kinds of textile products from China.
As reported, textile makers in Brazil have officially requested the government to limit the import of Chinese silk, velvet and polyester thread by implementing measures like imposing import quotas and increasing tariff. In the meantime, 70 more Chinese products are being reviewed within the textile industry to determine whether similar protective measures are to be taken on them.
Brazil's official statistics reveal that in the first eight months of the year, Brazil's import from China rose by 48%, compared with the same period of last year, while the export to China was up 6% only. That rendered into a drop in Brazil's surplus on trading with China by 51%.
