2005-11-14

The US Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements (CITA) has established a two-month import restraint for Chinese socks from 1 November through 31 December 2005, says a trade circular issued by on behalf of the Director-General of Trade and Industry, Government of Hong Kong.

As reported in Commercial Information Circular No. 272/2004 dated 2 November 2004, safeguard quotas were imposed on Chinese socks from 29 October 2004 through 28 October 2005.

With the expiry of the one-year safeguard quotas on 28 October 2005, CITA published a Federal Register (FR) notice (Annex) (pdf format) on 9 November 2005 to announce that new import quotas, at a level of 10,298,023 dozen pairs, had been put in place for Chinese-origin cotton, wool and man-made fibre (mmf) socks (Category 332/432 and 632 part) exported from the Mainland during the period from 1 November 2005 through 31 December 2005.

There is however no requirement for a textile visa or for an Electronic Visa Information System (ELVIS) transmission for such shipments.
