Korea sets goals for textile and apparel industries

Korea's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy has lately announced its blueprint for the country's textile and apparel industries in the coming decade.

According to the ministry's 2015 Textile and Apparel Industry Vision and Development Strategy, as Korea is having the capacity to establish internationally renowned fashion brands especially in the customized apparel market, there is a need to raise its export ratio of textiles for industrial use from the present level of 25% to 55% by 2015, with three world famous fashion brands built up.

To meet the goals, the ministry is to encourage the use of information technology in the textile and apparel industries, enhance design and branding, and modernize manufacturing processes.
