Export of textile goods by the year 2010 has been targetted at US $40 billion, states J N Mishra, Textile Commissioner, Government of India.
Past four to five months have witnessed Indian textile industry on the upswing, announced Mishra to the press. And he backed this contention with last quarter figures that showed textile growth increasing to eight percent.
He informed this at the inauguration of the first hi-technology weaving park at Komarapalayam and said that four other parks would soon be opened in Tamil Nadu.
He also added that Planning Commission had granted Rs 625 crore to launch 25 to 30 parks within two years under the Integrated Park Scheme.
Speaking more on Cauvery Hi-tech Weaving Park at Komarapalayam, he said 3500 persons will get employment opportunities, either directly or indirectly.
He dismissed any possibility of ban on export of raw cotton and yarn as the farmers would get the high sale price for their products.
About dumping duty on garment imported from other countries to India, he informed that anybody could import and export goods in the age of globalisation.
