Northwest China's Shaanxi Province has so far approved the establishment of 536 Taiwanese-funded enterprises which have invested heavily in the new and high technology, commerce and trade, and tourism sectors.
Shaanxi had drawn increasing interest from the Taiwanese enterprises which were injecting more investment into the province, said Ding Guoting, director of the Xi'an-based Taiwanese Business Association.
He said that in the just-concluded Shaanxi-Taiwan Investment Fair, the two sides had signed investment contracts totaling two billion yuan (241 million US dollars).
China's western development policy had encouraged evermore Taiwanese enterprises to join in the development drive, said Ding.
Low land, energy and labor costs had also made investment profitable, he added.
Taiwanese investment had regional characteristics in distribution, which focused on electronics in Xi'an and Chengdu, tourism in Guangxi, flowers and plants as well as bio-technologiesin Yunnan, tomato paste and roasted seeds and nuts in Xinjiang and Gansu.
Most of the Taiwanese enterprises had been successful in their investment projects in the western regions.
For instance, "Kangshifu", an instant noodle food, developed by the Taiwanese Dingxin International Group in Chongqing, has becomea household name on the mainland.
