China : Labour Day vacation opens with retail boom
Post Labour Day vacation for almost a week, retail market in Shanghai witnessed a boom as many promotional events to lure consumers were held.
Shanghai New World Department Store on Nanjing Road beat other retailers by registering the highest single store sales of 72 million yuan (US $8.99 million) during May 1-7, revealed local trade commission.
Record sales showed 38 percent growth compared to the same period last year, according to local media.
Yesterday's sales were projected for the previous days of the holiday.
