Indian textiles and yarn have chance of making a strong dent in Brazilian market as India's exports in textiles, particularly in synthetics, have gone up in recent years. Textile exports to Brazil in January-October 2002 stood at $22.86 million, as compared to $15.95 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. Imports from Brazil, mainly cotton, fell to $11.57 million from $30.42 million. Brazilian companies evinced interest to buy Indian textile products but were reluctant to conclude any transactions due to uncertainties over the real exchange rate. This is likely to stabilise by February/March when the new government in Sao Paulo would have taken change and the market settles down.
