China : Govt cautions exporters on investigation in textile transshipments
Anti-dumping duties on Chinese textile by two major markets, the EU and the US, have forced countries exporters to seek foreign lands.
However, exporters resrted to profitable but illegal method of transshipment of Chinese textiles to Least Developed Countries like Mauritius, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and other South American countries where Chinese goods are merely labeled and then exported to the US or EU countries under duty free access that these countries have under various trade agreements like AGOA, CAFTA-DR , among others.
But, even this has caught the attention of the US and the EU Customs Authorities which have begun conducting inquiry against this illegal practice and further more, placed caps on certain categories of textiles after conclusion of their fact finding missions.
EU and US authorities sent their inspection teams to Thailand and Vietnam in particular, to investigate the issue of illegal exports by Chinese enterprises, recently.
In order to avoid invitation of such strict measures from the US and EU, Chinese government has forewarned textile exporters to declare facts about the origin of exports of goods, source inform.
This all goes to show how concerned Chinese authorities are to ensure its image is not tarnished in the global marketplace.
