The first public agreement tender on textile exports to the EU and the US for 2007 starts today and will be concluded on 24 this month. A total number of 4,787 enterprises have been eligible to participate in this tender.
Some textile enterprises are not optimistic about the prospects for exports to Europe and the US in the coming year, so they are more cautious in the tender.
It is learned that 70 percent of the 31 categories under EU and US textile quotas in 2006 was distributed according to the performance of exporters and the remaining 30 percent was allocated through open tender.
A new model will be adopted in 2007. Among the 31 categories, only 18 categories will be allocated upon exporters' performance. Other 13 popular categories will be distributed through agreement tender.
The quantity of the first agreement tender will be 50 percent of the total agreement quantity for the coming year.
According to the Customs statistics, in January-September, Chinese textiles and garments exported to the EU and the US registered $28.65 billion, an increase of 1.1 percent from the same period of previous year, accounting for 26.6 percent of the textile and apparel export amount, while exports to non-EU, and non-US countries increased 40.2 percent.
