China : Over 50% of cotton imports fail to meet quality standards

Cotton Association learned from a recently held meeting of '2006 National cotton inspection and quarantine technology communication' that from January-October 2006, China imported 3.25 million tons cotton, with 10747 batches being tested, among which, 5640 batches failed to meet standard qualification, causing heavy losses of 8692 tons cotton.

China claimed US $123 million from foreign countries. It saved a lot of economic losses for Chinese enterprises and safeguarded the interests of the state and companies.

In the course of inspection and quarantine of imported cotton, in addition to quality and weight problems, China also found a lot of faults such as watermarks, oil spill and moldy defects at different levels.

At the same time China intercepted massive epidemic situation, and effectively prevented foreign pests from introducing into China, and protected the safety of China's ecological environment
