China : Ethylene project of Sinopec starts operation

Sinopec Corp’s ethylene project went into operation in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province. It is capable of producing 700,000 tons of ethylene per year.

Company invested nearly 7 billion Yuan (about US $875 million) and possesses latest equipments for ethylene production. Project was started in April 2005.

With the launch of this project, sales will increase by 10 million Yuan (US $1.3billion), can generate profits of 2 billion Yuan.

This project will facilitate the textile, clothing, automobile, electronic, building materials and plastic industries in northwest China.

In 2005, China was ranked second after United States for ethylene production of more than 7.5 million tons.
