China : Shaanxi Shiquan silkworm spins color cocoon

Recently, the development of color cocoon breeding achieved success in Shaanxi provice, which was explored by Shiquan County silkworm farm and the Southwest Agricultural University. It has filled up the blank of color silk development in Shaanxi province.

Since the beginning of 2004, senior agronomist Zhang Boren from the silkworm farm and Professor Zhang Lie and other experts from the Southwest Agricultural University set the cooperative project of color silk cocoon develepment

The team first embarked on the experiment of silkworm cocoon breeding in the farm, then they transferred natural color gene to high-yield and high-quality silkworm genome through breeding techniques. Eventually they produced the new silkworm varieties with stable traits, which spins green silk.

After examination, Sichuan silkworm Commission approved that the home breeding experiment of silkworm in Shiquan County farm has been successful.
