China : Govt promotes domestic silk brands of Hangzhou

This year, silk industry will be the nucleus of the development strategies for Hangzhou city.

Yesterday, Local Government declared 2007 as brand establishment year of the silk industry of the city.

Government is going to implement innovation strategy, brand strategy and marketing strategy this year for the sector.

According to estimates, city has over 600 silk enterprises and about 120,000 workers are employed by the industry.

Annual output of the industry is around RMB30 billion and Government granted funds worth RMB20 million last year.

Government is planning to set-up cocoon base, which requires investment of RMB30.1 million. ChunAn county of Hangzhou city will become production base of the industry after establishment of about 1 billion square meters of mulberry orchard by 2010.
