In recent times, domestic textile and clothing units are facing difficulty in expanding their exports to EU and US. Now enterprises have mainly shifted their exports to Asia and other potential markets.
According to Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement, from September 1, 2006, China and Asia-Pacific countries like India, Bangaldesh, Sri Lanka, Laos and Korea will reduce custom duty among themselves on leather, textile and clothing.
This will open big market in Asia for textile and garment enterprises. However, experts warned textile and clothing units to improve quality of the products and production according to requirement of Asian markets.
