China : Cotton knitwear standards to be introduced in Dongwan

Dongwan city will be the first to introduce ‘cotton knitwear standards’ in China. Pilot project has been approved by the Government of Guangdong province.

Standards comprise seven sections including product category, testing method, package, transportation and reserves. Product category consists of pullover, vests, trousers, skirts, caps, scarves, gloves etc. Washing methods include dry cleaning, hand washing and machine washing.

Standard certification depends on the product’s requirements, which are divided into four categories of safety necessities, grade regulation, internal quality and external quality. Internal quality demands the cloth to have 100 percent cotton fibre content.

Each manufacturer must submit minimum 20 samples for inspection. If the sample’s cotton fibre content turns out to be 95 percent or less, it will be disqualified.
