China : Re-export of textiles & clothing through Indonesia under scanner

Chinese textile enterprises' intention to re-export through a third country will be hampered. Recently, Indonesia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with US to prevent the re-exporting of textiles and clothing through their country.

After signing the MoU, Indonesian Ministry of Trade will reduce the units in charge of the issuance of the certificate of origin form 193 units to 85. Indonesian Ministry of Trade said that in 2007, they will further check the illegal transshipment.

The Customs authority of both Indonesia and the US will implement a networking connection to confirm whether a product is carried to the United States originating from Indonesia.
