China : Ecological standards to promote clothing export

With the end of 2006, the safety of ecological textiles receives the attention again. Beijing authorities announced disqualification of 28 kinds of clothing, which use chemical compound formaldehyde content beyond standards. The major problem of this kind of clothing is its peculiar smell.

China is a big country for textiles production and exports, if it does not maintain its standard in textiles research for environmental protection, safety and health and if it fails to keep up with international green trends, Chinese textile exports will have to face problems.

Back in March 2003, the ‘Eco-Textile Technical Requirements’ were implemented to maintain the recommended national standard.

The ‘Eco-Textiles Technical Requirements’ effectively regulate the production and processing of green textiles and encourage many domestic enterprises divert their attention towards green textile production.

It encourages purchasing raw materials for the production of green textile and ensuring the ecological quality of the final product.
