aama-tex 2007 SOARs new heights with record number of exhibitors

2007-3-21

Singapore, 20 March 2007 - AAMA-TEX 2007, the seventh presentation of the Asia Apparel Machinery & Accessories Exhibition (Incorporating Textile Machinery & Accessories and Leather Machinery & Accessories), has attracted over 260 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions, a record in the show’s history.

There are three national pavilions from Singapore, China and Germany. Singapore takes the lead with the biggest contingent of 48 exhibitors. Following closely behind are China (46) and Japan (29), Taiwan (17), Hong Kong (16) and Germany (14).

The exhibition which occupies 15,000 squares metres of Singapore Expo was officially opened by Mr S Iswaran, Minister-of-State for Trade and Industry, this morning. It is organised by Sewing Machine Traders Association (Singapore) (SMTAS) and strongly supported by Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau, The Textile & Fashion Federation (Singapore) and Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Says Mr Teo Kim Chuan, President of SMTAS, “We are extremely pleased that AAMA-TEX 2007 has attained such a high level of participation. This demonstrates the faith that industry colleagues have in the AAMA-TEX brand name. It also affirms the exhibition’s position as the leading technology showcase in the garment and textile industry in the post textile-quota era”

An important factor for the success of AAMA-TEX is the unwavering support shown by various trade associations around the region. AAMA-TEX 2007 has received strong endorsement from many industry counterparts, including:

§         China Sewing Machinery Association (CSMA)

§         German Garment and Leather Technology Association (VDMA)

§         Guangdong Sewing Equipment Chamber of Commerce

§         The Clothing Manufacturer’s Association of India (CMAI)

§         Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA)

§         Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association (SLAEA)

The Chairman of PRGMEA, Mr Ijaz A. Khokhar expresses his confidence in the AAMA-TEX brand name: “AAMA-TEX 2007 provides us with a unique opportunity for our garment manufacturers to know about the latest developments in the making of quality outfits. As Asia emerges as a major supplier of garments and apparel to the world, it is important to cultivate and develop an awareness of the increasing demand for quality products in this competitive international market. Without this consciousness, no supplier can survive. This can be done through use of technologically advanced modern machines, and AAMA-TEX provides just such an excellent platform.”

AAMA-TEX 2007 is expected to attract more than 5,000 visitors, including buying delegations from the supporting associations. The majority of visitors will come from garment manufacturing powerhouses in the South and Southeast Asia regions such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, Vietnam, Thailand, Pakistan, Philippines and Sri Lanka.

The four-day exhibition ends this Friday. Opening hours are from 10am to 6pm. Admission is free by registration.
